Grace Foundation
Established in 1961, the Grace Foundation (the company's philanthropic affiliate)
makes financial donations each year to charitable organizations and educational
institutions in the United States and Canada.
Support is provided to organizations based in areas where Grace has a significant
employee presence, as well as to programs or projects that represent exceptional
opportunities to improve the quality of life for an important segment of the population.
In addition, the Foundation matches, dollar for dollar, personal gifts made by employees
and directors to degree-granting U.S. and Canadian community and junior colleges,
four-year colleges and universities, and graduate and professional schools.
While the Foundation's main focus is on education, it also supports health care,
human services and youth organizations, as well as civic, environmental and cultural
programs. In 2007 alone, the Grace Foundation donated more than $1.1 million to
nearly 300 organizations, universities and colleges. A large portion of that total
was done through employee matches. The most significant one in terms of size went
to the United Way, matching 50% of employee contributions to campaigns run in Louisiana,
Maryland, Massachusetts and Tennessee. Many of the campaigns went beyond traditional
fundraising and added fun and innovative ways to generate interest, such as silent
auctions and creating cookbooks for sale.
