Libby Medical Program

In 2000, Grace established the Libby Medical Program to cover the costs of treating asbestos-related conditions and illnesses in people who live in Libby or who lived there when the mine was operating, with no cost to plan members.

The plan covers medical, prescription and pre-approved home health or hospice care for enrolled individuals. A third-party administrator, Health Network America, oversees the program.

Since the program was established, Grace has spent more than $17 million meeting health care needs of nearly 1,200 members. Most of the money has been spent on medical care and prescription drugs, though other benefits such as smoking deterrents and gym memberships for weight loss were also included.

In addition to the medical program, Grace has donated more than $2.1 million to St. John's Lutheran Hospital in Libby. Since the first donation in 2000, the hospital has used these funds to purchase equipment and provide care and services for patients with asbestos-related conditions and illnesses.
