Management Commitment
Risk characterization, management and communication are important elements of Grace’s Product Stewardship Program. Our risk characterization and management program is intended to identify, reduce, manage and communicate the environmental, health and safety impacts associated with our products.
A cross-functional team approach is utilized to consider the full product lifecycle.
Characterization
Risk characterization begins with an evaluation of the hazards associated with the ingredients to be used in the product. The detailed composition is defined and any reaction compounds, by-products, impurities or other minor components are included in the evaluation.
Available physio-chemical, health hazard and environmental effects information is reviewed and studies are commissioned to obtain additional data as required.
During the exposure evaluation, manufacturing processes, packaging, distribution, use, handling and disposal are considered. Risks are characterized for workers making the product, customers using the product and others who may be affected.
Management
Prior to product commercialization, a risk management evaluation occurs. This evaluation is intended to assure products can be sold and safely used in all intended applications.
Communication
Grace primarily communicates product safety information through Material Safety Data Sheets and product labels. Additional communication methods such as training presentations and videos, safe use bulletins and regulatory summaries are used when necessary to adequately communicate risk information.
