Pore Volume (Porosity)

Higher pore volume yields higher matting efficiency.

SYLOID® silica particles can be visualized as tiny sponges. The porosity of this highly porous material is measured by pore volume, which indicates the amount of internal voids in the silica particle.

Matting Mechanism Pore Volumes

The higher the pore volume of the silica, the more efficient is the SYLOID® silica grade. This is because the high porosity particles are being lighter, thus providing a greater number of particles per unit weight.

High porosity is a key feature for obtaining higher matting efficiency by using less than the traditional matting agent at the same particle size. SYLOID® silicas have pore volumes ranging from 0.4 - 2.0 ml/g.
