Metallic Pigment Paints
In metallic pigment paints, water reacts with highly active metallic pigments such as zinc or aluminum to form hydrogen.
This leads to overpressure in the cans, and to leakage in extreme cases.
Zn + 2 H20 → Zn (OH)2 + H2
2 Al + 6H2O → 2 Al (OH)3 + H2
This effect can be avoided through the use of a SYLOSIV® molecular sieve. It adsorbs moisture rapidly, effectively suppressing the reactions identified above.
