SYLOBEAD® Adsorbents for Air Drying
Due to their unique adsorption properties, molecular sieves and silica gels can be used in a variety of air drying processes:
-
In trucks and buses, moisture needs to be avoided since the expansion of air in the air brake system can lead to very low temperatures which could cause ice formation due to moisture from the from air, thus blocking the brake system.
-
Dried air is typically required to avoid condensation and therefore corrosion in pipes/conveyors and often to avoid interaction between the air and the bulk material being conveyed. Higher amounts of humidity in the air could also lead to lump formation in the bulk material and therefore to blocking of the pipes.
-
For compressed air, it is necessary to keep the air dry to avoid condensation (and therefore corrosion) in the pipes/compressor. Later on, the compressed air is often used for a chemical process where water is not required/acceptable.
-
Dried air is also often used to create a sterile production environment, e.g. for certain medical products where moisture could lead to bacteria formation
-
Since condensation could cause errors in the electrical readings of such instruments, this is another application for dried air.
