DARACLAR® Silica Methods of Treatment

Quick acting DARACLAR® silicas may be added at any point after fermentation and before final filtration. It is equally effective in either batch or continuous processes.

Depending on the process and the type of beer, typical dosage levels range from 10 to 15 pounds of silica per 100 barrels of beer.

Batch:

In the batch method, a slurry of DARACLAR® silica is added to the finishing tank while it is being filled. It is important to add the silica throughout the filling process in order to allow adequate time for adsorption of the haze forming proteins. Generally, adsorption can take as little as 5 to 10 minutes although longer times are not detrimental. DARACLAR® silica gel is completely removed during final filtration.

Continuous:

In the continuous method, a slurry of DARACLAR® silica is metered continuously in-line while the beer is on its way to final filtration. Depending upon contact times, additional retention might be required via a surge vessel.
