LUDOX® Colloidal Silica for
Fining of Wine, Beer, and Fruit Juices
Removal of undesirable proteins, tannins, and phenolics from wine, beer or fruit juices not only reduces haze and sediment but often reduces discoloration and bitter taste.
Typically, the beverage is treated with a combination of colloidal silica and gelatin to rapidly flocculate the undesirable components.
For beverages that are more difficult to clarify, bentonite clay or potassium hexa-cyanoferrate (blue fining) may also be added in combination with the colloidal silica and gelatin.
LUDOX® colloidal silica has been used to clarify wine, beer, and fruit juices for over 50 years.
Only certain specialty grades of Ludox
® colloidal silica are recommended for this application:

- LUDOX®P T-40F
- LUDOX®P X-30F
- LUDOX® SM-30F
